Perfect for a cozy evening in or when you’ve got friends over and want to impress without too much fuss. So, grab some green tomatoes and let’s get frying!
Ingredients:
- 4 large green tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- In another shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- In a third shallow bowl, place the cornmeal.
- Bread the Tomatoes:
- Dip each tomato slice into the flour mixture, coating it thoroughly and shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured tomato into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
- Finally, coat the tomato slice in the cornmeal. Set aside on a plate and repeat with all tomato slices.
- Fry the Tomatoes:
- In a large skillet, heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry the breaded tomato slices in batches, without crowding the pan, for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fried tomatoes from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve:
- Serve the fried green tomatoes hot, garnished with fresh herbs or your choice of dipping sauce like a spicy remoulade or a simple buttermilk dressing.
This Fried Green Tomatoes recipe is not only easy to make but also delivers a deliciously crunchy and tangy treat that’s perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or just a tasty snack!
